Nick Whalen was born, educated and raised in St. John’s East, then studied math and engineering at Queen’s University in Ontario and law at McGill in Quebec. Nick and his wife, Sarah, did their professional training in Toronto. After their second child was born, they were fortunate enough to be able to move back home to Newfoundland. Nick was a partner at McInnes Cooper, practicing corporate and intellectual property law prior to election.
Nick is committed to important values like family, equal opportunity, community engagement and sustainable development. Those values have led to service as director of the Parkinson’s Society of NL, minor soccer coach with the Feildians Soccer Association, and Chair of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Canada, which assesses and funds sustainable development, wildlife conservation and poverty reduction projects in Northern Kenya.
Nick ran to be the Liberal MP for St. John’s East because he believes the Liberal Party of Canada has the best and most comprehensive policies to create a fairer society. He chose to put his skills and experience to represent the current and future interests of St. John’s East, not only in the challenges that are facing us now, but in those that lie ahead.
